Over our nearly two decades on Garden Walk, we’ve seen quite the transformation of Shoreditch. Shops have come and gone, pubs have changed hands, and the culinary landscape has flourished. Amidst these changes, two new residential towers now stand tall, providing an iconic silhouette against the neighbourhood’s skyline. The Stage is the latest luxury development to be completed, and at 37 storeys tall, it’s hard to miss. Amenities include a sky lounge, a cinema, a bowling alley… and now a publicly accessible park.
The Stage's Viaduct Garden, accessible through the entrance just off Great Eastern Street, has recently opened and sits atop the former Kingsland Viaduct. On the opposite side of Great Eastern Street, the remaining section of the ex-viaduct hosts the famous repurposed tube carriages now serving as offices. The garden's creation was a stipulation in the planning approval for the broader development, welcoming both residents and non-residents daily from 8 am to 7 pm. Accessibility is ensured through both a staircase and an elevator, catering to individuals with disabilities.
While not expansive, the Viaduct Garden is a welcome addition to the Shoreditch community. It offers a tranquil escape from the bustling main road and provides a viewpoint over the local area. The gardens include a small play area for children, grass lawns and bedding for flowers and shrubbery. Additionally, an indoor space, currently unoccupied, is rumoured to be earmarked for a future café.
